With lead vocal stylings akin to Colin Maloy, The Chairs’ witty lyrics were accompanied by mulit-faceted bass and treble urging the audience to bob a head and tap a foot . At the end of their set, the band mentioned that they had a tradition of switching who plays what instrument for every show that they do…never giving the exact performance twice!
The Super Desserts folk, of which there were 10, (+record label, Meredith/Red Bird) provided ears with twinkly chorals and bright whistling passages. Two ukes! One banjo! One Cello! Two Violas! One Tambourine! One Guitar! Bass Clarinet! And a xylophone! The stage was looked like Noah’s Ark of sound. Their sound transported the audience to a circa 1960s record store listening booth, complete with bobby socks.
